Reflexology is a non-invasive holistic complementary therapy. It is a touch therapy where the practitioner works on different points on the feet and lower legs. The hands, ears and face can also be worked in reflexology.
The main principle behind reflexology is that the systems of the body are mirrored in the feet, and these other areas, and that applying sensitive touch allows the body to correct imbalances.
My practice of reflexology involves a blended approach of the two strands of reflexology that I am qualified in: Duopody Reflexology and Five Element Reflexology.
The combination of these two aspects allows for gentle, rebalancing, deeply relaxing and truly bespoke treatments for you, designed to release tension, improve mood, support sleep, reduce stress and promote wellbeing.
Read on to find out more about Duopody and Five Element Reflexology.
Duopody is a newer development of reflexology that involves working both feet at the same time. It gives a 3 dimensional view of the body within the feet which are worked during a session.
Being a Duopody reflexologist, I have a deeper knowledge of anatomy and physiology to help me understand how the body works in optimum health and how many common ailments and conditions affect it, as well as having the skills and knowledge to research more complex health aspects to really tailor treatments to you.
Duopody is based on the major systems of the body and this is reflected in treatments. It may be that the muscular/skeletal aspects are proving problematic or perhaps stress is affecting the nervous, immune and endocrine (hormonal) systems. My treatments for you are planned according to what systems need to be worked to best create truly bespoke, and beneficial, treatments.
Working both feet at the same time allows each system of the body to be worked through as a whole and aids an overall feel of balance to treatments.
Having this deeper understanding of the systems and functions of the body allows me to create reflexology treatments to best suit you and your circumstances.
Five Element reflexology is based on ancient traditional Chinese medicine principles of Five Element theory. Dating back 2000 years, this is ancient wisdom and still serves a purpose today.
Five Element theory principles are based on the balance and harmony of energy flow within the body. It is a wide ranging theory covering more than just the body but also the mind, emotions, the soul and the wider natural world around us.
Within reflexology, it focuses on different organs, structures and functions of the body and where there are imbalances, either too much or too little, of the energy required for these to function properly and effectively.
Five Element theory relates to the five different elements of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. Each element rules certain bodily organs, systems and functions and an imbalance in one or more of the elements can lead to difficulties with physical, mental or emotional health.
How does this come together for a blended approach to treatments?
At the beginning of a reflexology treatment, I will have taken a detailed health consultation and therefore have an understanding of your current health and wellbeing needs. This gives me a baseline for what to undertake in your reflexology treatment.
Once I start working on your feet, using Five Element reflexology knowledge, I assess which elements are most out of balance by palpating the five main organs of the elements on the feet.
I, subsequently, use this knowledge, alongside my Duopody reflexology knowledge of the body and your existing health and wellbeing circumstances, to plan, create and deliver a truly bespoke treatment for you.
